The City of Greenwood is bringing back its beloved holiday festivities with an array of events for the community to delight in. Starting last Saturday, the Parks & Recreation Department will commence its seasonal celebrations with KiD CiTY Christmas at the Greenwood Community Center from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., as revealed by the city's own dispatch. Attendees are anticipated to immerse in activities ranging from train rides through a light trail to enjoying classic holiday treats like hot cocoa and popcorn.
According to the City of Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers, "I always enjoy seeing our community come together during the holiday season,” as he expressed his enthusiasm for the events curated by the Parks and Recreation Department. These include a jaw-dropping, lighted promenade extending into Old City Park and an enhanced Amphitheater Lighted Trail, boasting more than 42,000 lights, including candy cane tunnels, and lighted bridges. The lighted trail will glow from dusk till dawn, every night from last Sunday until the month's end, free of charge, as per the City of Greenwood.
The holiday cheer continues with the return of Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, occurring at the Community Center with offerings from SmokeHouse Catering and opportunities for donut decorating and snapping photos with Santa. For families preferring indoor festivities, the city introduces a Christmas Coloring Contest for children, with a deadline for entries set for Sunday. The contest information and coloring sheet are accessible on the City of Greenwood event page.
Enthusiasm for the holidays is palpable throughout Greenwood, as families and friends can bond over the city's festive arrangements without the necessity of an entry fee for most events. With the holiday lights illuminating the season's joy, and personal moments shared with Santa, the city's endeavors to spark community spirit are evident in their expansive seasonal offerings.
