
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has disclosed the identity of the deceased gunman involved in the recent shooting at the Hutchinson Plant in Livingston, as James Cody John, 34, of Cookeville. This information comes after a morning of turmoil where preliminary reports indicated two individuals suffered injuries from gunfire, with both currently in stable condition, as reported by the TBI Newsroom.
Law enforcement officials, including the Livingston Police and the Overton County Sheriff’s Department, responded to the shooting around 7 a.m. According to the TBI, the suspect precipitated a police chase that culminated near the Cumberland/Roane County line along Interstate 40. A brief standoff ensued after which John was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, "He has been identified as James Cody John (DOB 09/04/1990) of Cookeville," the WSMV detailed.
The incident has left the Livingston community, known for its close-knit bonds, reeling with shock. Resident Angela Petrella, whose home lies adjacent to the Hutchinson Plant, recounted the abrupt disruption to the town's tranquility, "There must be something crazy going on because we don’t usually get a bunch of sirens going on through this town," she told News Channel 5.
Livingston Police Chief Ray Smith conveyed his appreciation for the community's support, "Prayers go out to all those affected by this situation. This isn’t a regular event here in Livingston, and we appreciate all the heartfelt prayers for our community at this time," he stated. Meanwhile, the investigation by the TBI, which is being led at the request of 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson, continues actively.
