After a significant disruption, traffic on I-75 in Hernando County is now back to its regular flow, following the earlier closure caused by a jackknifed semi-truck. The incident, which took place just north of the State Road 50 exit near mile marker 304, was first reported by FOX 13 News and occurred shortly after noon yesterday.
Hernando County's emergency services, including the Fire Rescue, swiftly responded to the crash that brought the northbound traffic to a halt, and thankfully, as WTSP reports, only minor injuries were sustained in the accident which involved the semi and at least one other vehicle, with the truck hitting a guardrail, causing its trailer to swing across the lanes creating a temporary blockade of the interstate.
The details around the cause of the crash are still not widely public, WFLA notes that all northbound lanes were closed for a period of time due to the accident, but reopened on the same afternoon ensuring a return to the usual traffic pattern for the many commuters and travelers who rely on this stretch of highway each day.
The exact circumstances leading up to the semi's jackknifing remain under investigation, while Florida Highway Patrol has also indicated that a car crashed into a guardrail though it is not clear whether this was a separate incident or part of a chain-reaction following the initial jackknife of the semi according to the scene photos provided by fire crews, all lanes, however, are now clear with no current reports of ongoing obstructions or delays on I-75.
