A tragedy unfolded on the South Side of Chicago where a 14-year-old Indiana boy was fatally shot and later died due to his injuries, authorities confirmed. Israel Maldonado from Whiting, Indiana, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an incident that occurred on Sunday evening in the South Chicago neighborhood.
According to WGN-TV, the shooting took place before 6 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Houston Avenue. Maldonado was later dropped off at an area hospital presenting a gunshot wound to the neck, one in the chest, two in the back, and one in the left hand. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. As of now, police say, nobody is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing by Area Two detectives.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim, further confirming the heartbreaking news of the young teen's death. The news of Maldonado's fate reverberates, stirring a familiar echo of the violence that continues to grip parts of the city.
ABC7 Chicago reports that the boy was dropped off at Trinity Hospital shortly after the shooting, with fatal wounds. Despite the prompt medical attention, his injuries proved too severe. At this stage in their investigation, the Chicago police have not taken anyone into custody in connection with the shooting.
