The Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police and the City of Indianapolis have ratified a new four-year contract for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), as confirmed by FOP President Rick Snyder yesterday. FOX59 reports that the deal secured a staggering 97% approval and will result in approximately a 24% pay increase for IMPD officers on average, one of the highest salary increments in the state for new recruits.

According to WTHR, the contract passed after a record turnout of officers, setting the stage for what will be the IMPD's largest contract in its history. The contract is slated to go into effect in 2025 and run through 2028. Commencing with starting salaries around $72,000 a year, the new wage package is expected to make the IMPD competitive in recruiting and retaining officers within the state.

"We want to thank Mayor Joe Hogsett for his commitment to retaining IMPD Officers, while competing with other agencies for new recruits, plus ensuring the IMPD is positioned for future generations of officers and their families," Snyder stated, as WIBC notes.

Moreover, Snyder extended his gratitude towards IMPD officers for their "commitment and steadfast service to the residents and visitors of Indianapolis." He remarked, "Their professionalism is recognized across America and this labor agreement is a testament to their tenacity and their care for our community," as he commended them, following the approval of the contract untangling for what is to be a watershed moment in the department's remuneration and recruitment strategy, as per WIBC report.
