A northbound stretch of Interstate 15 was closed Tuesday morning after a five-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver in Lehi. According to KSLTV, Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) stated the collision was caused by a female driver in a Dodge Charger who, after sideswiping another vehicle on I-15, made a hazardous maneuver turning her car to face oncoming traffic.
As reported by FOX13, the driver's abrupt U-turn on the highway set off a sequence of collisions that culminated in the Charger bursting into flames. The fiery scene after a major accident was created, added to the morning's traffic woes, with commuters experiencing significant delays as emergency services rushed to contain the chaos and clear the wreckage.
Three individuals were injured in what became a multi-vehicle disaster, as detailed by KUTV. UHP Sergeant Cameron Stump, however, did not confirm if impairment was a factor. "Stump didn't say if any type of impairment was being investigated as playing a part in the incident," disclosed KUTV, further noting the lack of clarity surrounding the reason behind the driver's actions or if she was attempting to elude authorities for unrelated issues.
