In a string of incidents that could've spelled disaster for unwitting motorists, three juveniles have landed in hot water for allegedly hurling baseballs and softballs onto Interstate 65 in Johnson County. Per reports from local authorities, these dangerous escapades took place on two separate occasions, once on November 9 and again last Monday. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office confirmed to FOX59, that the items thrown, a mélange of sports gear, posed significant risks to those on the road.
After receiving calls about items being tossed from overpasses, deputies arrived at scenes littered with baseball equipment, which they later ascertained had been pilfered from a local little league organization in Franklin. Having been interviewed in the wake of these events, three juveniles are now in the hot seat. While trying to avoid harm, Sheriff Duane Burgess lauded his colleagues' quick action in a statement obtained by WTHR, "This was a troubling incident that caused property damage and could have led to serious injuries. We were very fortunate that no one was hurt."
Digging deeper into the case, officers hope to hold the guilty parties to account by referring the matter to the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office, which is currently pondering potential charges. Adding a layer of complexity to these shenanigans is the act of stealing, which turns a foolish prank into a criminal inquiry. This development was highlighted by victim reports, as detailed to WISH-TV, and the scope of the damage incurred ensures this is no light matter.
Apart from managing the immediate aftermath, officials are also seeking additional information from anyone who might have been impacted by these incidents. Showing an unyielding resolve to get to the bottom of things, anyone with damage caused by the overpass onslaught is encouraged to contact Sgt. Ryan Bartlett through the number provided by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, driving home the point that public safety is not a game.
