A man was taken into custody early Christmas morning after a shooting incident in the West End, which escalated to a standoff with police. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the confrontation started when a 45-year-old man reportedly shot a 38-year-old man in the foot over a "personal matter" in the 5900 block of Hamilton Terrace shortly after midnight.
Officers arriving at the scene encountered the suspect refusing to leave the residence and subsequently barricading himself inside. Despite attempts at negotiations by a tactical team, the man maintained his resistance.
According to SLMPD, a police canine later found the 45-year-old hidden within the home, leading to his arrest at approximately 8 a.m. The SLMPD's statement did not include any information regarding charges the suspect might face or any planned court dates.
