A 42-year-old man has been fatally shot in the South Shore neighborhood, according to Chicago police. The man was discovered with gunshot wounds to the face and chest on Sunday night, in a third-floor apartment located on the 7800 block of South Bennett Avenue. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the shooting occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m.
Responders quickly took the victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center in a critical state where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. As per the ongoing investigation, no suspects have been apprehended. A statement provided to FOX 32 Chicago confirms the lack of current suspects in the case. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Area Two detectives are actively investigating what led to this violent incident.
As stated in reports, officials have asked anyone with information to come forward and assist in their ongoing investigation to possibly track down those responsible and to prevent further tragedies.
