Yesterday afternoon, a vehicle and a Brightline train were involved in a severe collision that left one man requiring emergency medical treatment. According to CBS12, the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 4:15 p.m. where they found the vehicle had sustained heavy damage from the impact with the train.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, was extracted by the first responders and rushed to a local trauma center by Trauma Hawk. It is reported by Boca News Now that the rescue team was able to quickly and efficiently extricate the man from the wreckage.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Hypoluxo Road and Dixie Highway. Following the incident, train traffic was temporarily halted as authorities conducted their investigation on-site. Brightline had to cancel or delay several trains along the West Palm to Miami corridor, as reported by Boca News Now, urging passengers to check the latest on schedules via their website.
The details surrounding why the man's vehicle was on the train tracks at the time of the incident remain uncertain. Officials have not immediately determined whether the train involved was a Brightline passenger train or a freight train sharing the FEC tracks. The ongoing investigation is being carried out by the Lantana Police Department, as CBS12 notes, aiming to soon clarify the circumstances that led to this near-fatal encounter.
