In an incident that disrupted the early hours of yesterday morning in Miami Gardens, a police vehicle became the unintended target of fireworks during a street takeover. The chaotic scene unfolded at the intersection of NE 2nd Court and Miami Gardens Drive, where the police cruiser was struck, amidst drivers performing illegal maneuvers, as witnessed by locals and captured on video by WSVN.
One witness, Gesepo, described the sequence of events to WSVN, stating, "They were just having fun, turning back and forth, back and forth, doing that thing," and when "the police came, [an officer] was like, ‘They weren’t doing what they were supposed to do."
The arrival of Miami Gardens Police was met with aggression as several vehicles daringly maneuvered around the police cruiser and set off fireworks just after 3:45 a.m.—the moment when the vehicle was struck, according to a post by an Instagram account dedicated to Miami events.
Gesepo detailed further, "Somebody was doing donuts. The police officer was just backing up, backing up, till he gets here, and he just hit the car. So, after he hit the car, he just left," according to WSVN.
Participants in the takeover fled as law enforcement approached, with one damaged vehicle, later towed, being left behind after colliding with the police car; witnesses said that the subjects' vehicle, a black Jeep, fled the area with four people wearing ski masks Destiny Burk, another witness, told WSVN, "We were waiting right here. The cops were trying to catch them, but they didn’t catch them."
The search for the individuals involved in the brazen act continues, and Miami Gardens Police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 305-474-6473. Fortunately, the event concluded without reports of injuries, although the investigation into the street takeover and the attack on the police vehicle is still underway.
