A Miami Lakes man has been taken into custody following an early morning altercation that escalated violently. Danny Michel Casavilla-Garcia, 47, is accused of opening fire on two people at a Miami Lakes shopping plaza parking lot, after tensions flared over him allegedly photographing their cars. Local10 reported that one of the victims, identified as Cedeno Alvarado, was shot in the pelvis and subsequently ran to a nearby gas station to seek assistance.
The confrontation took place around 3 a.m. yesterday, wherein the victims confronted Casavilla-Garcia to seemingly try to prevent him from further capturing images of their vehicles. According to an arrest report, a verbal dispute ensued before Casavilla-Garcia proceeded to unexpectedly draw a weapon and shoot at both men. NBC Miami disclosed that while Alvarado was hit, the second victim, who was not named, managed to avoid injury despite his car sustaining damage from a bullet that shattered his vehicle's driver-side window and impacted the rear passenger door and window.
Following the incident, both Casavilla-Garcia and the victims contacted the authorities to report the location of the altercation. Miami-Dade Police Department officers arrived at the scene and discovered Casavilla-Garcia in possession of a semi-automatic handgun, which was found in his back pocket. He was promptly detained and taken into custody.
In a statement given to the police, Casavilla-Garcia admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident and acknowledged discharging his firearm, but claimed to be unsure of the details regarding what unfolded thereafter. He brazenly declared to detectives, "I'm not afraid of anyone," reports NBC Miami. He is currently facing charges that include attempted murder, shooting a deadly missile, and criminal mischief, and was booked into the Miami-Dade jail. As of the latest updates, attorney information for Casavilla-Garcia was not available.
