A harrowing kidnapping case in Miami-Dade has ended with the alleged perpetrator in police custody. Last Saturday afternoon, a 6-year-old boy was playing soccer outside his northwest Miami-Dade home when approached by 56-year-old Jose Reynaldo Martinez Reyes, who is now facing kidnapping charges; according to police, Martinez Reyes lured the child away with the promise of buying him a toy, NBC Miami reported.
The child's quick-thinking older brother and a family friend began a desperate search upon discovering the younger boy was missing, eventually finding them more than a mile away from their home the two were walking hand in hand, as stated in the WSVN report.
The brother confronted Martinez Reyes, which led to a physical altercation—during the skirmish, Reyes claimed the child was his own, but the older sibling managed to retrieve the 6-year-old and get him to safety; Miami-Dade Police were then called to the scene where Martinez Reyes was detained.
Miami-Dade detectives have confirmed that Martinez Reyes had no relation to the child and he has since been arrested and booked into jail other charges include interference with custody police are still seeking more information about Martinez Reyes and the incident, and they're asking anyone with information to come forward and contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
