A man has been pronounced dead after an early morning shooting on the final day of the year in Miami, causing unease in a normally quiet neighborhood near Liberty City. According to Local10, the Miami police were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. at a residence on Northwest 47th Street and 10th Avenue. Responding officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene.
While the details surrounding the incident remain largely unknown, the community has been vocally disturbed by the violence. "Well, I’m stunned," Barbara, a neighbor, told Local10. "You know, I’m sad because somebody’s life (is) at stake." Police have to yet reveal a motive for the shooting, leaving space for speculation amidst residents trying to make to sense of the tragic event. "Things happen, it’s Christmas time, and people get in their feelings," added Barbara.
The identity and the age of the man who died have not been released by authorities pending notification of next of kin, as per earlier reports. WSVN has stated there was no immediate word on a shooter or the circumstances that led up to the shooting. The search for answers continues, with investigators combing through the property near where the victim was found, and the crime scene unit working diligently to collect evidence.
Local residents, while still grappling with the shock, are hopeful for a resolution. "You know, it’s quiet, you don’t hear no nothing," Barbara said in a statement obtained by Local10. "So that’s what I’m saying, for this to go on right here, what the heck. Especially right up in there, that’s very quiet." Miami police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in piecing together the events that led to the man's death.
