Miami Welcomes the Holiday Season with "Winter on the Bay" at Deering Estate, Featuring Classic Movie Screenings and Festive Activities

Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, in partnership with Deering Estate, is bringing back the cherished Winter on the Bay event. Scheduled for Friday, it promises to be an evening filled with festive cheer and a touch of nostalgia. In a statement obtained by the Miami-Dade official advisory, Commissioner Cohen Higgins expressed excitement about the upcoming community gathering from 5 to 9 p.m. at the historic Deering Estate.

This year's highlight is an outdoor screening of the 1983 holiday classic "A Christmas Story", a beloved film for over 40 years. Families are encouraged to wear their holiday pajamas and bring blankets or lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the movie in a comfortable, laid-back setting. The event offers more than just a movie screening, with a variety of holiday-themed activities for kids. Highlights include popcorn ball and cookie decorating, face painting, caricature artists, and a gaming station. A reading tent will also be available for those who prefer quiet holiday storytelling.

More than just a fun night, Winter on the Bay is also an opportunity for attendees to steep themselves into the local heritage of Miami—with a grand tour of the historic house museum at Deering Estate. For just a five-dollar fee, visitors can explore rooms decked in holiday décor and discover the estate’s storied past. Commissioner Cohen Higgins told Miami-Dade's advisory publication, “We are thrilled to partner with Deering Estate to bring this magical holiday experience to the community. Winter on the Bay will be a festive celebration for all ages, and we look forward to welcoming families to share in the holiday spirit.”
