
A motorcyclist in West Jordan was critically injured after an accident late Thursday evening which involved the rider striking a tree. Kevin Mallory, a sergeant with the Unified Police Department, confirmed the incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of 1040 W Jordan River Blvd. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by local authorities.
"It's currently under investigation. We have our accident reconstruction team on scene," Mallory said, according to KSL. Traffic flow was disrupted as the eastbound portion of 7000 South was shut down to facilitate the inquiry, an operation that was projected to quickly complete spanning the next 2-3 hours from the time the area was closed.
The identity of the injured motorcyclist has not been released, and as of the latest reports, the individual remains in critical condition, as reported by KUTV.
In the wake of the accident, the UPD actively responded with aid and the assembly of a crash task force to thoroughly investigate the factors involved. The area near Jordan River Trail, a hub of community activity, has become the focus of this sudden and unfortunate event. "UPD responded to the scene with their crash task force to conduct an investigation into what occurred to cause the crash. That investigation is still ongoing," as detailed by ABC4.
