Chaos erupted at Jamaica Jerk Choice, a restaurant in Oak Forest, when several patrons were stabbed on Saturday afternoon. The incident, which took place around 2:00 p.m., led to multiple injuries and three arrests, as reported by Chicago Sun-Times. Police arrived at the scene, located at 6066 159th Street, and discovered several people with stab wounds.
Authorities quickly transported the injured to a nearby hospital, though the specifics of their conditions remain undisclosed. In the wake of the violence, the community grapples with a shaken sense of security, the Sun-Times notes a lack of clarity on how many individuals were affected. According to local resident Alex Soto, in a statement to ABC7 Chicago, "To be honest, it kinda nerves me. My sister comes here... my mom comes here, and to know stuff like that can happen to anybody, I just hope it doesn't happen to my family or anybody else it's very unfortunate."
Police have taken three individuals into custody in connection with the stabbing. The Oak Forest Police Department continues to investigate the incident, though they have assured the public there is no ongoing threat. Despite the reassurances, the event shut down neighboring businesses, severely impacting the local economy on what would typically be a bustling Saturday night. Mario Lopez, an employee at the adjacent Mexican grill cantina, relayed to ABC7 Chicago how the police activity hindered their operations, saying, "It really affect us because it's a Saturday night... usually we're packed by now and as you can see we have just a few tables."
As the night progressed, police sifted through the aftermath while the parking area remained deserted for hours. This closure resulted in substantial losses for establishments in the vicinity, potentially missing up to 80% of their expected business, according to Lopez. The full details of the incident are yet to unfold, and the Oak Forest Police Department has not scheduled further updates for the evening.
