A collision involving a semi-truck and several cars resulted in a temporary shutdown of southbound lanes on Interstate 15 near the Box Elder-Weber County line. The incident, which took place near milepost 352, included four vehicles in the crash with the semi-truck, according to KUTV.
Sgt. Battenfield of the Utah Highway Patrol revealed that the driver of the semi followed the cars too closely, leading to the collision as the traffic slowed down. Despite the upcoming holiday closure,, "Everybody’s trying to get back home from Thanksgiving," said Battenfield, as per KSLTV. Conditions of the roadway certainly contributed to the incident's impact on traffic flow.
The crash occurred on Sunday around 6 p.m. and forced the closure of southbound lanes near Willard. This disruption led the Utah Department of Transportation to advise motorists to use an alternate route, which they communicated through their official traffic update platforms, including a tweet from UDOT Traffic.
Minor injuries were reported from the site of the accident, and one person was taken to a local hospital. Thankfully, serious injuries were avoided however, the Utah Highway Patrol expected the lanes to reopen by 7:30 p.m., a vital detail for those on the road during the post-Thanksgiving travel rush, as obtained by KSLTV.
