A 22-year-old man, Austin S. David of Mt. Juliet, lost his life on I-40 East near Nashville after being struck by a vehicle and then run over by several others. The incident, which likely occurred early in the morning, was discovered when officers found David's body around 11:15 a.m. today.
Initial reports suggest that David was walking in the far-right lane of I-40 when the accident happened. Despite daylight breaking over Nashville, no witnesses or vehicles remained at the scene. Investigators believe the incident may have occurred as early as 2 a.m.
Authorities are asking anyone who was traveling on I-40 East between Donelson Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike during the relevant hours to come forward with information. The Nashville Police Department has opened a tip line through Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463 for anonymous tips.
