The Nashville Fire Department is planning to design a new Fire Department Headquarters and Fire Station 2. As part of this transition, headquarters functions are temporarily relocating to the Global Mall at Hickory Hollow Parkway. According to Nashville's government website, design work has already started, with the goal of consolidating the headquarters, which is currently spread across several locations, into a single temporary space.
The relocation is moving forward quickly, with key steps this year including updating zoning laws, preparing the mall for demolition, and beginning plans for a new neighborhood transit center, as outlined on the city's website. Fire Department Director Chief William Swann said in a statement, "The Nashville Fire Department is excited to announce our temporary relocation to the Global Mall at Hickory Hollow Parkway. Thanks to the support of multiple mayoral administrations, we have been able to expand our services to meet the growing needs of our community," as mentioned in the Nashville government website. Swann also noted that the Global Mall space is large enough to support the department's expanding operations.
"We've worked very hard with the Antioch community to ensure the overall Global Mall site delivers what neighbors envision, want, and need. As an interim step, we can now put a core public safety function on site temporarily that activates one of the buildings. This is a safety and efficiency step that helps the surrounding area as we keep making longer term progress," Mayor O'Connell said in the release.
The new headquarters will enhance the department's capability and strengthen public safety infrastructure in the region. The temporary move to Global Mall is a step toward preparing the Fire Department for the city's future needs.
