Nashville's Nissan Stadium will host the 2024 TransPerfect Music City Bowl, featuring a matchup between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Missouri Tigers. Slated for a December 30 kickoff at 1:30 p.m. and broadcast nationally on ESPN, this marks the Tigers' first appearance in the annual bowl and Iowa's return following their win against Kentucky in 2022. According to WKRN, the announcement was made with high expectations for robust fan turnout and a display of formidable competition from both sides.
"This year's game will showcase two teams that won a combined 17 games in the two strongest conferences in the country and we expect a great turnout of fans flooding Nashville," stated Scott Ramsey, TransPerfect Music City Bowl president and CEO, emphasizing the strong season records within the Big Ten and SEC. The teams' selection came as a surprise to fans as neither the Tigers nor the Hawkeyes were predicted to play in Nashville based on last week's final guesses from the official Music City Bowl Instagram, as reported by FOX 17.
The Hawkeyes are coming into the bowl game after a season highlighted by their strong defense and commitment under Kirk Ferentz, known for being the longest-tenured head coach in collegiate football. "We are thrilled to accept an invitation to play in the 2024 TransPerfect Music City Bowl against Missouri," Ferentz told Maury County Source. He further expressed his gratitude to Ramsey and the Board of Directors for selecting them to represent the Big Ten.
On the other side, the 19th-ranked Missouri Tigers finished an impressive season with a 9-3 record. Their dynamic performance was affirmed by their second consecutive nine-win season since 2013-14. “It’s an honor to be selected to participate in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to play at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. It’s a great market for our alumni and fanbase and I know we’ll have an excited crowd,” Missouri Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz conveyed in a statement obtained by WKRN. Highlighting the team's hard work, Drinkwitz exuded gratitude for the chance to guide his squad through one more game.
The 2024 TransPerfect Music City Bowl will feature a matchup between Iowa's strong defense, led by Jay Higgins, and Missouri's explosive offense, starring quarterback Brady Cook and receiver Luther Burden III.
