A Nashville man has been detained in connection to a fatal shooting that took place over a year ago, on Rosa L. Parks Boulevard at Interstate 65. The arrest was conducted by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division TITANS, part of the local police force. Kealin Hicks, 27, is facing charges of first-degree murder for the death of Diandre Starks, 24, who was shot on August 27, 2023, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
The investigation revealed that Starks had been driving a stolen Honda Pilot SUV prior to it crashing and igniting into flames. He was subsequently transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries the following day. There were also two other potential victims involved; their vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was hit by gunfire in the same incident. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, neither of the Jeep's occupants were injured, and Hicks now faces additional attempted first-degree murder indictments for them.
On the day of his arrest, Hicks was discovered behind the wheel of another stolen vehicle, this time an Infiniti sedan. Rather than complying with detectives' attempt to pull him over, Hicks fled, leading to a pursuit that ended with the deployment of spike strips. Despite his attempt to escape on foot after the car was immobilized, Hicks was quickly detained.
Law enforcement officials recovered two pistols, marijuana, and multiple key fobs from within the stolen Infiniti, as detailed by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Hicks is currently held on a $250,000 bond as the ongoing investigation seeks to understand the extent of others' involvement in the August 2023 shooting.
