The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is on deck to showcase its adherence to established procedures and policies, a step necessary to uphold its accredited status with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). According to a recent announcement, the MNPD is set to start its annual web-based assessment, a proactive measure which runs from January 24 to February 1, 2025, in an effort to conform to CALEA's precise standards.
It is not just the main department bracing for analysis, but the MNPD Training Academy is also expected to under a similar process slated from May 30 to June 7, 2025. Throughout these evaluations, CALEA-appointed assessors will remotely review the department and the academy's operations, ensuring that they align with the 463 and 161 applicable standards, respectively. The MNPD has held this mark of distinction continuously since 1994 and the Training Academy has followed suit since 2011.
In an effort to make this process transparent, CALEA introduced a public access portal in 2023 where residents can share their input about MNPD's services. These contributions, as stated on the official MNPD website, will be factored into the ongoing assessment, though direct responses will not be provided by CALEA, save for the acknowledgement of receipt.
