A New Orleans man has pled guilty to federal narcotics offenses, as U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced on Wednesday. Dreshawn Fields, 28, admitted to possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, facing up to 20 years in prison along with other penalties.

In addition to the potential two-decade incarceration, Fields's conviction could result in a fine of up to $1,000,000, at least three years of supervised release post-imprisonment, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. These details were pointed out by Evans and have since been confirmed by official court records. The FBI began to monitor Fields's activities in 2023 after suspicious posts were made on his Instagram account.

On January 9, 2024, NOPD officers found a white Dodge Charger, which was reported stolen and linked to Fields through a woman's statement. A search warrant executed by officers led them to seize numerous items from the vehicle, including drugs and firearms. A federal complaint charged Fields with narcotics possession with intent to distribute in March 2024, with the man's arrest following shortly as he left a vehicle near the courthouse.

A vehicle search further yielded methamphetamine, a magazine with ammunition, a scale, baggies, and pills testing positive for fentanyl. Fields was promptly taken into custody by law enforcement. According to an official statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office, both local police and federal agents collaborated on the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Trummel of the Violent Crimes Unit handling the prosecution.

Shane Jones, Community Outreach Coordinator for U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Louisiana, released the update and confirmed these details surrounding Fields's case. The conviction signifies yet another step in the ongoing battle against illegal narcotics distribution in the New Orleans area. Fields's sentencing has yet to be scheduled.
