Officials from the Oakland Police Department's Alcohol Beverage Action Team (ABAT), in collaboration with Eastend Foot Patrol officers, conducted a crackdown on a suspected illegal operation at a licensed smoke shop in East Oakland. According to a report by the Oakland Police Department, the raid occurred on December 5 after they received community tips about shady activities at the shop in the 8500 block of Bancroft Avenue.

The inspection led to the discovery of a trove of illicit items, including significant amounts of flavored tobacco products banned by law and a plethora of unlicensed cannabis products. In addition to the contraband, officers found controlled substances, such as Psilocybin, known as magic mushrooms, and khat, a stimulant leaf. The officers confiscated two loaded, registered firearms found on the premises, a direct violation of the law when in conjunction with the possession of controlled substances intended for sale.

The operation did not immediately result in arrests. However, the cases have been referred to the Alameda County District Attorney's office, which may press for civil charges or even potential eviction proceedings against the business operators.

To foster safety and trust within the community, the OPD has urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive by contacting the ABAT Complaint Hotline at (510) 777-8677 to report questionable sales practices involving tobacco and minors.
