Starting this month, travelers and regular visitors to the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center and James E. Stewart Golf Course may need to find alternate routes. The northern section of Frederick Douglass Avenue will be closed through January for necessary repairs and replacements, according to the City of Oklahoma.
Detours will direct traffic to turn east onto Frederick Douglass Avenue from Martin Luther King Avenue instead of the usual route. While the road is closed to through traffic, signs will guide visitors to the recreation center and golf course. The construction is not expected to impact the commute for local students, as the City of Oklahoma news release states, "The construction should not affect daily traffic for nearby Douglass High School."
For those seeking additional guidance or encountering difficulty navigating the adjusted routes, contact numbers have been provided. Assistance is available through the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center at (405) 297-1435, or the James E. Stewart Golf Course at (405) 424-4353.
