Tragedy struck early yesterday afternoon when one individual was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at a Marathon gas station in Belle Glade, Florida. WPTV reported that the incident unfolded off SR 715, close to the Palm Beach State College Campus.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO), the deadly event seemingly began as an altercation outside the store, escalating quickly to involve gunfire that left three people seriously harmed. CBS12 notes that one of the victims succumbed to their injuries after desperately being rushed to the hospital, while the other two are expected to survive.
PBSO has yet to publicly identify any of the victims or a suspect, and residents interviewed by WPTV's reporter Cassandra Garcia expressed their shock, conveying to her that the neighborhood is generally known for its quiet nature. "While no one was willing to speak on camera, they did tell her they were surprised to learn of the homicide and triple shooting because the neighborhood is typically quiet," stated WPTV in the course of their coverage.
The PBSO's Violent Crimes Division is actively pursuing the investigation, treating it as a homicide. They are yet to establish definitively whether a sole shooter was involved or if multiple individuals were engaged in the outbreak of violence.
