A 29-year-old Pinole resident, Joseph Avalos, was arrested by Colma Police earlier this month after allegedly committing theft at a local business on Serramonte Boulevard. Despite its small-scale infringement, the incident intersects with the broader issues of petty crime and legal repercussions in the Bay Area. On the evening of December 14, Avalos entered a store and exited with $27.01 worth of merchandise without paying. Authorities responded to the scene and apprehended Avalos in the 800 block of the same boulevard, as recounted in a social media post by the Colma Police Department.
According to the police report, Avalos was implicated in the theft and violated a prior trespass notification served by the same business on December 5. In the series of events that unfolded, officers searched and discovered drug paraphernalia on his person.
A subsequent records check unveiled existing misdemeanor warrants from neighboring jurisdictions amounting to $6,000. These charges and the immediate offenses culminated in Avalos's booking into the San Mateo County Jail.
