Pittsburg Tragedy: One Dead in Fiery Crash, Suspected DUI Strikes Police Vehicles amid RoadblockSource: Google Street View

Pittsburg Police Department has reported an unfortunate incident that occurred on Monday evening. Officers were called to a scene of devastation where a single vehicle had collided with a power pole and a fire hydrant in the 1400 block of E. Leland Road, as per a social media post by the Pittsburg Police Department. The impact of the crash caused a fire, ultimately consuming the vehicle and its lone driver, who tragically succumbed to the incident.

Following the accident, the area experienced a power outage, and efforts to manage the emergency required closures of both directions of E. Leland Road. Traffic was cordoned off with visible barriers and patrol vehicles to ensure the area was secure for emergency operations. However, this did not prevent another distressing occurrence. A black Ford Explorer, later identified by officers, managed to crash through the well-marked barricades at around 10:10 p.m., striking three police cars that were part of the roadblock setup.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, whose reckless decision to navigate past the barricades led to this second incident, received medical attention at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. This complicating factor called for the California Highway Patrol to step in to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the secondary collision.

As inquiries into both incidents remain active, the Pittsburg PD urges the public to come forward with any information that may aid their investigation. People with knowledge about either event are encouraged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department Dispatch at 925-646-2441 or directly with Traffic Officer Barkley at 925-252-4005.
