Early this morning, a residential fire in the Plantation Acres neighborhood resulted in the tragic loss of a woman's life. The incident was first reported by WSVN which provided initial details on the location and response efforts.
The fire sparked in the pre-dawn hours, and despite the efforts of the Plantation Fire Department, who quickly tackled the flames, one casualty was confirmed; according to further details provided by NBC Miami, the woman was the only person home at the time of the fire and she was taken to HCA Florida Westside Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, the fire appeared to originate on the first floor, likely in the kitchen area, though an official cause has not been determined.
Neighbors shared with CBS Miami that the couple owning the home were both doctors who had been part of the community for some time, having built their house from the ground up; the aerial views showed the home's exterior with charring and smoke damage, yet it seems that the structure of the house did not suffer substantial damage.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, local authorities have closed roads in the vicinity for safety and to facilitate the ongoing work of the Fire Marshals, who are leading the probe into this tragedy the State Fire Marshal has been also called in, the power to the home was cut by FPL to ensure a secure environment for the investigators.
