The Wayne County community is in mourning after a search for a missing Richmond woman ended tragically, with the discovery of her body in a creek. Lorena Scott, age 59, was last seen on Saturday morning before, her gold Chevrolet Malibu was involved in a single-vehicle crash on New Paris Pike near Mid Drive, an accident after which she disappeared, leading to an extensive search effort which included the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and other agencies, as reported by FOX59.
Initial search attempts using multiple officers and drone teams from both the sheriff's department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources failed to locate Scott, despite the car being found crashed and abandoned; interviews with her family members and an analysis of security footage and financial records, alongside the mobilized concern of the community, brought forth no significant leads, according to information obtained by WISH-TV.
It wasn't until yesterday morning, several days after Scott was last seen, that a joint search effort including authorities from the Richmond Fire Department Drone Team ultimately led to finding Scott deceased in a creek more than a quarter mile east from the site of her crash, this discovery unfolded adjacent to a large culvert, as per details from a Pal Item report.
While the Wayne County Sheriff's Department has not determined a cause of death, foul play is not suspected at this time, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Scott's death is ongoing, the department has voiced its request for the public to respect the privacy of Scott's family and loved ones during this difficult period, "We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Scott’s family and loved ones during this difficult time," the sheriff’s department said, as per Pal Item.
