
Over the weekend, a potentially dangerous confrontation was diffused when Salt Lake City police officers arrested a man accused of brandishing a firearm at a construction worker. The incident unraveled on Saturday afternoon around 1:30 PM at 1440 South Main Street, as reported by a 9-1-1 call from a community member, according to SLCPD.
Witnessing a truck parked in a suspicious location behind the construction site, the construction worker approached the vehicle for investigation. Inside, seated, the suspect Christian Gomez-Dominguez was seen with a beer can. Having racked a handgun, the suspect pointed it at the worker through the car window, the aforementioned worker reported feeling threatened despite no shots being fired.
Responding swiftly, SLCPD officers found and detained Gomez-Dominguez near the site inside his vehicle. A handgun along with firearm accessories were recovered in the course of the investigation, in addition to an open beer can. The officers conducted field sobriety tests on Gomez-Dominguez, who failed and also lacked a valid driver's license.
The recaptured handgun and the suspect were subsequently booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, facing multiple charges. "Officers booked Gomez-Dominguez into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of being a category two restricted person in possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, impaired driving, having an open container in a vehicle, and not having a valid driver’s license," as detailed by SLCPD.
