The Colma Police Department gave chase to a shoplifter who attempted an unorthodox getaway through a cemetery last Wednesday. According to an announcement made on social media by the Colma Police, at around 1:41 pm, officers responded to a theft report from a store located on the unit block of Colma Boulevard. The male suspect reportedly concealed merchandise in a bag and then made a break for it on foot.
Upon arrival, the officers spotted the suspect walking in a cemetery adjacent to the business. Ignoring the commands to stop, the suspect looked at the officers and bolted, prompting a foot pursuit. The chase concluded with the suspect ceasing his run and surrendering. Colma Police Department states, "The male eventually stopped running and surrendered to officers and he was detained without further incident."
The apprehension led to the suspect's identification as the individual involved in the shoplifting incident. The merchandise stolen amounted to roughly $293.89. The police subsequently arrested the suspect, citing him for shoplifting and resisting a police officer.
Identified as Joshua Warwick, a 45-year-old San Francisco resident, has been released with a citation and a promise to appear in court.
