San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has made recent headlines with the announcement that 44-year-old Thea Hopkins, a San Francisco resident, has been charged in connection with two separate incidents of assault in the Bayview area. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Hopkins now faces charges for an assault that occurred on July 3, 2023, which have been bundled with charges from another attack on March 4.

Hopkins' charges include one count of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and one count of battery with serious bodily injury. After pleading not guilty, her next court appointment is scheduled for December 20 for a preliminary hearing. In a statement by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Jenkins thanked the San Francisco Police Department "for their thorough investigation" and the public "for their patience as the investigation unfolded and trust in my office to make an appropriate charging decision based on the facts and the law." She assured her office will "now do everything in our power to fight for justice in the courtroom and ensure that there is accountability in this case."

The March attack, which Hopkins was initially charged with, involved an unprovoked assault on a 71-year-old elderly Cantonese-speaking woman. As Hoodline reports, the victim was allegedly pounced upon from behind, her hair seized, and then subjected to punches before being thrust to the ground by Hopkins. Reacting to the incident, Jenkins said, "Everyone should be able to walk around our city freely without fear of being viciously attacked."
