
In a string of criminal activity that has rattled the McKinley Park neighborhood, a total of six businesses were burglarized within a span of 15 minutes early Wednesday morning. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the burglaries happened on the 3100 block of South Ashland Avenue, with the suspects forcefully entering the establishments through front glass windows or doors, and making off with money and cash registers.
The suspects, who were reportedly clad in dark clothing, masks, and gloves fled in a stolen black Hyundai Elantra, with distinguishing chrome rims, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. Separately, Chicago police have also issued warnings about a series of armed robberies targeting food delivery drivers in the same neighborhood. Detailed by ABC 7 Chicago, these robberies have occurred at various times and locations throughout McKinley Park, including several incidents on the 3700 blocks of South Wood Street, South Wolcott Avenue, South Paulina Street, and South Hoyne Avenue. Delivery drivers arriving to drop off food have been confronted by one or two assailants brandishing firearms and demanding valuables such as cash, food, and cell phones.
This unfortunate uptick in criminal activity has prompted a reaction from the community and law enforcement, with the latter urging delivery drivers to exercise increased caution.
