An altercation on Christmas Day in the 5500 block of Chamberlain, has left a 25-year-old man recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. According to local authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. when the man opened his apartment door to greet a friend. Instead, he was confronted by two unidentified male suspects wielding a firearm, intent on robbing him.
The victim, whose name has not been released, reportedly engaged in a struggle with one suspect to disarm him. The 25-year-old man said, "a struggle over the firearm ensued as he attempted to disarm the suspect," per an account by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. During the struggle, the gun went off and the man was hit in the leg.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene on foot, eluding immediate capture. Emergency services were called to the scene and the victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he currently is listed in stable condition. District 5 police are actively investigating the crime.
Authorities have not yet released any descriptions of the suspects involved, nor have details about potential motives or leads been made public. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
