A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in relation to a series of robberies on Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train platforms, as reported by The Chicago Sun-Times. The teenager is facing multiple charges, which include armed robbery, three counts of aggravated battery to a transit employee or passenger, and three counts of robbery. He was taken into custody at the Juvenile Detention Center, located at 1100 S. Hamilton Ave.
Allegations against the teen include involvement in, at least four separate incidents that have occurred since July, on various train platforms across the city. Police said he was identified as one of the offenders who took part in the robberies and batteries of men at these locations. The dates and places of the alleged crimes are as follows: July 31 in the first block of West Cermak Road, September 17 in the 3900 block of North Sheridan Road in Wrigleyville, and September 17 in the 1100 block of West Brywn Mawr Avenue in Edgewater, closing with a final incident on September 18 in the 1200 block of North Clark Street on the Near North Side.
In a separate report by FOX 32 Chicago, additional details of the incidents were shared, including the ages and genders of the victims: a 24-year-old male on West Cermak, a 34-year-old male on North Sheridan, an unspecified male victim on Bryn Mawr and a 30-year-old male on North Clark. The teenager's arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Counterterrorism Tactical Team and the Chicago Police Department.
While specifics about each incident remain sparse, the charges suggest a pattern of violent activity that has raised concerns among regular CTA patrons. Authorities have not disclosed whether other suspects are involved or if more arrests are forthcoming. The juvenile in question has not yet been named due to his age and the ongoing nature of the investigation, which seeks to piece together the sequence of events leading to his series of alleged offenses.
