An incident late yesterday afternoon in the Bay Park neighborhood resulted in serious injuries for a 17-year-old male after his E-bike collided with a 2001 Mercedes E320. According to the San Diego Police Department's Watch Commander's Log, the teenager was riding an Off-Road Surron E-bike without a helmet when the accident occurred at Fairfield Street and Huxley Street.
The report, overseen by Officer J. Perales, detailed that the youth was traveling northbound on 2600 Fairfield Street while a 41-year-old male was driving the Mercedes southbound. As the two approached the intersection, going in opposite directions, the Mercedes turned left onto Huxley Street, resulting in the collision. The impact was significant enough to eject the 17-year-old from his bike, and he sustained a cerebral air embolism along with multiple facial fractures. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Traffic division officers who responded to the scene confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. However, the determination of fault in the collision is still pending. As the investigation continues, the San Diego Police Department urges anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
