In Terre Haute, a man has been detained on charges of attempted murder after an assault on his ex-girlfriend and her male companion. Marc A. Yates, 46, is accused of the Nov. 26 attack which resulted in severe injuries to both individuals, authorities say. The Terre Haute Police Department, responding to a battery report in the 3300 block of S US 41, found two victims battered, one of whom had a protective order against Yates, as detailed by WTHITV.
Attempting to avoid her ex-boyfriend, the unidentified woman had parked her car in a different location than usual and was accompanied by a male friend. Despite these precautions, Yates managed to track them down and, wielding what was described as a "club-style" weapon, proceeded to aggressively assault them. The male victim suffered life-threatening injuries including a skull fracture, while the woman sustained a fractured ankle among other injuries, as reported by WTHITV.
Following the assault, Yates eluded capture for several days before being apprehended on Monday at his residence on 4th Avenue. The arrest required the involvement of both U.S. Marshals and local police after Yates refused to willingly surrender. According to FOX59, he faces serious charges, including one count of attempted murder, a level 1 felony, and two counts of aggravated battery, a level 3 felony.
Currently, Yates is being held at the Vigo County Jail with his cash bond set at $100,000. Legal proceedings are ahead, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for March 11, 2025, as reported by WISHTV.
