Mimi Chinese, a Michelin Guide-recognized restaurant from Toronto, has opened its first U.S. location in Miami Beach at 1575 Alton Road. The restaurant offers a menu featuring regional dishes from Guangdong, Sichuan, Hong Kong, and Hunan, bringing a variety of Chinese culinary traditions to South Florida, as reported by the Miami Herald.
David Schwartz, the culinary director awarded the 2023 Michelin Guide Toronto Young Chef Award, told the Miami Herald that Miami's "passion for food" makes it an ideal location for Mimi Chinese.
Schwartz and Executive Chef Braden Chong have created a menu featuring dishes like the Four Foot Belt Noodle, which is served with housemade chili oil, mushrooms, and cucumber. The dish is known for its bold flavors and Instagram-worthy presentation.
The Hunan chili sea bass and signature shrimp toast as standout dishes at Mimi Chinese. The restaurant’s design, which lacks windows to focus attention on the food, features a semi-private dining area that has already attracted celebrities like DJ Khaled and Fat Joe.
The Miami New Times highlights the restaurant's focus on in-house craftsmanship, with fresh daily preparations. The menu includes a variety of raw and cooked dishes, as well as larger plates for group dining. Notable items are the 'General Tso' chicken with ginger syrup, smacked cucumber salad with wood ear mushrooms, and a whole bass prepared in two styles. The menu offers a blend of traditional and modern Chinese flavors.
