
A somber mood hangs over Chicago's West Garfield Park neighborhood following a tragic single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a woman and left a man and three children with serious injuries. According to ABC7 Chicago, the collision occurred on Sunday afternoon just before 1:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Lake Street.
The authorities reported that a Lexus SUV, which was traveling westbound, tragically struck a pillar. The incident resulted in the death of a 30-year-old woman, who was swiftly taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital but unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The male driver, whose age has not been disclosed, was also transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and is said to be in serious condition. To further emphasize the severity of this incident, three children, ages 11, 13, and 15, were taken to Stroger Hospital — all are reported to be seriously hurt.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is presently being conducted by CPD's Major Accidents Unit. As of now, no citations have been issued, which suggests that the authorities are thoroughly looking to gather all relevant information and evidence before arriving at any conclusions regarding the cause of the tragic event.
