
A severe collision involving a sports utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer early this morning led to a complete shutdown of Krome Avenue in Southwest Miami-Dade. The crash, which occurred around 6 a.m., forced emergency responders to engage in a rigorous extraction of one adult from the tangled wreck who was subsequently deemed a trauma-alert patient, NBC Miami reports.
Following the accident, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews and a landing helicopter were dispatched to the scene just off of Krome Avenue and mile marker 15, near SW 122nd Avenue both teams were working fervently to ferry the victim to the trauma center at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, Local 10 News detailed the response timeline. As the rescue mission unfolded, traffic was rerouted with authorities advising commuters to use SW 137th Avenue as an alternative path around the blockage.
The condition of the individual pulled from the wreckage has not been made public, nor have insights into the cause of this violent crash. Authorities are still investigating the sequence of events that led to the morning's tumult. Miami-Dade officials have yet to release a timetable for when they will lift the closure.
