President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Anthony W. Salisbury, a top special agent with Miami's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), as the new deputy homeland security advisor. Salisbury, who oversees various federal law enforcement programs, will focus on addressing national security threats, financial crimes, and smuggling operations, according to a statement Trump posted on Truth Social.

According to the Miami Herald, Salisbury has an extensive career, including serving as acting deputy executive associate director at HSI Miami and overseeing HSI operations in Mexico as deputy attaché. His experience in fighting narcotics and cartels will now support his role at the White House, where he will report to Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor. Miller, a strong advocate for tough immigration policies, has been a key advisor to Trump.

One notable operation, led by Salisbury in September, involved seizing a plane owned by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. "Today's actions is just a testament that HSI, as the principle investigative arm of Homeland Security, we have the expertise, we have the reach, and we have the global partnerships in order to affect change against anybody including powerful government heads that think they are untouchable," Salisbury said at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, according to NBC Miami.
