Two Chicago youths have been charged with a series of armed robberies that occurred on Tuesday, according to local authorities. Rashod Louis and Hamata Hampton, both 18, were apprehended last week following a string of incidents where victims were reportedly held at gunpoint.
Reportedly, members of the Chicago Police arrested Louis and Hampton at 5:35 p.m. on December 17, in the 10000 block of S La Salle St. The two are believed to have brazenly robbed multiple individuals on the same day, just hours before their capture. Each has been hit with four felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, charges that are bound to irrevocably change the course of their young lives. The pair stood before a judge at their detention hearing yesterday in the Circuit Court of Cook County, as mentioned in a statement released by the Chicago Police Department.
The specific incidents they are charged in connection with spanned multiple locations and victims. A report details the first occurrence at 1:50 p.m. on the 5700 block of S. Hamlin where an adult male was victimized. This was closely followed by a 2:30 p.m. incident on the 4800 block of S. Kedvale, involving a 51-year-old male victim. The crime spree continued unabated with a third armed robbery at 3:05 p.m. on the 4300 block of S. Whipple, where two more victims, a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were threatened.
Following their arrest, Louis and Hampton were swiftly placed into custody where they are to remain pending the outcome of legal proceedings. As with any ongoing investigation, the authorities have not yet disclosed additional details surrounding the circumstances of the teenagers' alleged involvement.
