Yesterday, Rytonio Demar Depriest, a 40-year-old wanted sex offender, was taken into custody by deputies from the Grant County Sheriff's Office after a short foot chase and with the aid of a K-9 unit. According to the FOX59 report, Depriest attempted to evade law enforcement at his residence in Marion, leading to the pursuit. The attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, as a K-9 unit was deployed to aid in apprehending Depriest, who subsequently received treatment for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.
Depriest had been the subject of two active warrants, one being directly related to his failure to properly register as a sex offender. As detailed in a Facebook update by the Grant County Sheriff's Office, officials acted in response to these warrants and swiftly moved to safely secure the individual. The use of K-9 Kiro was instrumental in the resolution of this situation. Depriest now faces to also be charged with resisting law enforcement in addition to his previous charges.
"This operation highlights the importance of our K-9 units and the collaborative effort of our deputies to ensure that offenders are held accountable," Sheriff Del Garcia stated, as referenced in the Grant County Sheriff's Office Facebook post. The authorities praised the professionalism of the deputies and K-9 Kiro, underscoring the unit's commitment to community safety and law enforcement.
The Chronicle-Tribune adds that the warrants for Depriest included not just the failure to register as a sex offender, but also a probation violation related to a sex offender's obligation to possess identification and the possession of methamphetamine. The new charge of resisting law enforcement will now have to be contended with in court along with the aforementioned charges. Grant County Sheriff's Office has reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty and encourages residents to continue reporting unusual activities or individuals who are known to have outstanding warrants.
