Bay Area residents can expect the weather to stay moderately warm over the weekend, but they should brace for cooler temperatures and a breeze next week. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco, we’re hanging on to slightly above-seasonal average temperatures for now, with a cooldown and some potential showers on the horizon.
The skies are predicted to remain clear for the most part today, although there might be some patchy fog in the mix, particularly across the North Bay valleys. Overnight low temperatures are expected to hover around the seasonal norms, reaching the lower to middle 40s inland, with coastal areas seeing highs in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees—possibly even mid-50s around the Santa Lucia mountains.
For those making plans for the upcoming week, temperatures will dip slightly on Sunday and even more so into Monday following the passage of a dissipating cold front. The strongest winds, potentially reaching 35 mph, are forecast for the higher elevations in the interior North Bay and East Bay.
Regarding aviation, pilots and passengers should anticipate VFR conditions mostly today, with some potential for MVFR ceilings at coastal terminals overnight. The National Weather Service cautions that while low cloud development is unlikely this morning around SFO due to a dry layer of air above the surface, the chances for such activity increase tonight into Sunday morning. VFR is expected to prevail at Monterey Bay terminals, with a moderate chance for overnight MVFR conditions at MRY and a slightly lower chance at SNS.
The marine outlook for today through Thursday indicates moderate north breezes will continue today before a cold front brings stronger winds Sunday, causing rougher seas. Mariners should note that conditions will calm by Monday afternoon, with more stable weather and a moderate northwest swell expected for the rest of the week.
