Attorney General Kwame Raoul has taken a firm stance against drug and gun trafficking in Illinois, as evident by the recent charges laid against an Addison man. Henry R. Brown, age 54, faced a litany of charges after his arraignment on Friday. These include the unlawful possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver and unlawful use of weapons by a felon. The severity of these Class X and Class 2 felonies could result in decades behind bars.

"Drug and gun trafficking lead to violent crime that has a devasting effect on communities throughout Illinois," said Raoul, highlighting the broader social impact of these criminal enterprises. The collaboration with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) has been instrumental in the capture and charging of Brown. Senior Assistant Attorney General Steven Knight prosecuted the Statewide Grand Jury Bureau, emphasizing the bureau's mandate to oversee multi-county cases of this nature.

According to the initial investigation by USPIS, Brown allegedly trafficked thousands of grams of cannabis into Illinois and stored illicit substances and firearms in a DuPage County storage facility.

Ruth Mendonça, Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division of the USPIS, elaborated on their mission, saying, "Postal Inspectors are committed to ensuring the U.S. Postal Service is not a mechanism for the distribution of illicit narcotics."
