The Loop neighborhood is grappling with a rise in violent thefts, particularly after two women were surrounded and robbed by a group of men on a pedway between CTA's Red and Blue Lines. The attack, which took place on the 300 block of South State on Friday evening evolved into a physical altercation where one victim was punched and thrown against a wall.
The Chicago Police Department has issued a Community Alert, seeking the public's help in identifying the four male suspects. One of them is described as an African American male, between 25 to 30 years old, sporting dreads and a mustache, and another who wore a yellow and black hoodie, while the victim attempted to retrieve her stolen purse, however, was met with violence instead.
The details of the offenders were outlined extensively: with age ranges, height estimates, clothing descriptions — and even facial hair details. The first is noted as a tall African American male, roughly between 6'01" and 6'03", with light facial hair on the chin, and the second individual is slightly shorter, clad in a black jacket and gray backpack. Additional suspects include another male dressed in a gray puffy jacket, light blue jeans, and black shoes, and a man sporting a black jacket with a gray hoodie and black ripped pants.
Residents and visitors to the area are advised by law enforcement to stay vigilant, avoid confrontation during a robbery, and take note of distinguishing marks or clothing that may aid in the capture of these individuals. One man reportedly punched and threw one of the victims into a wall during the scuffle over the purse.
