A fire broke out on the fourth floor of 820 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge last Sunday, starting around 2 p.m. and involving a mattress. The local fire department responded with a full team, according to the City of Cambridge.
The Cambridge Fire Department reported that a sprinkler controlled the fire until firefighters arrived and finished extinguishing it by 2:15 p.m. One resident was treated for minor injuries and taken to a medical facility by Pro EMS, as reported by the City of Cambridge.
The Cambridge Police helped with traffic and pedestrian safety during a fire, while the MBTA diverted the #1 bus route. Around 23 firefighters from multiple units worked to contain the blaze, with support from Inspectional Services, the Department of Public Works, and the Emergency Communications staff. The fire was cleared by 3:30 p.m. The City praised the emergency communications team for their "continued excellence under pressure" in managing the crisis, as stated by the City of Cambridge.
