In recognition of Sky Simpson's achievements in powerlifting, the City of Carmel recently honored him with a special celebration. Mayor Sue Finkam, Councilor Shannon Minnaar, and other city leaders gathered with family, friends, and fans at Penn Station East Coast Subs to celebrate Simpson and his father, Steve. The event included a street sign dedication and a ceremonial ride in a Carmel Fire Department vehicle.

According to a City of Carmel news release, Sky Simpson earned gold at the International Powerlifting Federation's World Open Equipped Powerlifting Championships in Iceland last November 2024. To commemorate his victory, street signs at Monon Green Blvd. and Range Line Rd. were temporarily renamed "Sky Simpson Blvd." Simpson, who has worked at Penn Station since 2022.

Simpson’s journey has been supported by coach Kyle Moran, who has mentored him since 2020. Moran, the owner of Moran Academy, praised Simpson’s physical and social development, stating, "It’s pretty special to see not only Sky’s physical but social development," in a statement obtained by the City of Carmel. Simpson’s next competition will be at the Powerlifting America Groundhog's Day Grind on February 2.

Todd Roush, Penn Station's Indianapolis area representative, also attended the event and spoke about the company's commitment to supporting the Down Syndrome community. Penn Station has sponsored the National Down Syndrome Adoption Network since 2014 and holds the annual Round Up for Down Syndrome campaign. Simpson served as the ambassador for the campaign in 2024.
